Lambeau Field and the Door County Peninsula

The following paragraphs were composed off line on Wednesday, the 6th:
Well, for a non-driving day we drove 200 miles. We are camped at an excellent campground on the very north edge of Kewaunee, WI on the western shore of Lake Michigan. We are about 25-30 miles east of Green Bay. This morning we drove into Lambeau Field and took the hour long tour. It was very enjoyable, enlightening, and entertaining. Let the history books note that we were at Lambeau Field the day that the Packers traded Brett Favre for a draft choice! Then we had lunch across the street at Kroll’s Restaurant. Durelle had their highly touted “butter burger”, and I had a prime rib sandwich au jous. It was like a French Dip. The burger was just a burger with a buttered bun…nothing special. The draft beer, however, was excellent at $1.50 per glass. The total was $17.19. That’s not bad.
Then we came back to the bus, picked up Belle, and headed out to circumnavigate the Door County peninsula. The peninsula heads north from Kewaunee about 60 miles. The east side is Lake Michigan, and the west side is Green Bay. The peninsula is highly rated as a vacation spot. We found farm after large, prosperous farm. Then, every few miles, there would be a picturesque, waterside village with a name that ended in Bay or Harbor. We stopped at Sister Bay and took a picture of a free concert in the park. We also stopped at a farm stand and bought some corn, some cheese, and some fresh cherries.
For you folks that didn’t believe that we would make it to Alaska, I have attached Exhibit A. Tomorrow we head west to visit our Alaskan friends, Ted and Esther Mertes, in Mantador, ND. We are modifying our itinerary to the extent that we will stop in Menomonie, WI instead of Lake City, MN.
Who knows when we will check in next.
We are checking in from Menomonie. We got in exactly at three. It is an older rustic campground that advertises that it has had the same owners for 43 years! Durelle is watching the PGA and I'm posting to the blog, albeit with a slow Verizon Air Card. We really enjoyed the Wisconsin countryside. The farms are large and lush, but they do not extend endlessly to a distant horizon. There is a lot more variety to the terrain than in the central parts of the midwest.

The frozen tundra of Lambeau Field looks positively balmy. Continued great posts, Dad. Love the picture of Belle in Alaska.
