Highway 101, running north and south along the Oregon coast is slow going. 144 miles took us nearly six hours! It’s a one lane road, not terribly smooth, and is about the only choice for both sightseers and commercial trucking, namely those tandem-trailered logging trucks. And, as you can imagine, the road traverses bays and promontories and varies in elevation from zero to 600 feet. We pulled over many times to let quicker traffic pass and to pull off for some of the views. The town of Waldport is on a bay, and tonight’s campground offers views of the town, the bridge, and the bay. In addition to the views, we paid a visit to the well-known cheese factory in Tillamook, OR. The place is huge. At any one time they have over 10,000 tons (!) of cheese aging. The packaging assembly lines are impressive. I have included two pictures of the coast and an inside and outside picture of the Tillamook factory.

Geesh, the lengths you'll go to get out of preparing for a Hurricane.
